GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate Edition: Is the Extra $20 Actually Worth It?

Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, and Rockstar wants either $79.99 or $99.99 from you. That's a real decision — $20 is a decent chunk of a game's worth of money — and the marketing copy doesn't make it obvious what you're actually buying.

Here's the straight version, with everything confirmed and everything unconfirmed clearly flagged.

The prices

There is no PC version at launch. If you're a PC player, neither of these is for you yet, and Rockstar has not announced a PC date.

What both editions get you

✅ CONFIRMED — Pre-order either edition and you get the Vintage Vice City Pack:

• The two-tone '55 Vapid Stanier sedan
• Shore Court Garage on Ocean Beach
• Period outfits and hairstyles for both Jason and Lucia
• An exclusive weapon pattern

This is not Ultimate-exclusive. A lot of coverage has gotten this wrong. The Vintage Pack comes with any pre-order, Standard included.

The important part: it's available with all digital purchases made before November 20, 2026, and with physical pre-orders while supplies last. That's a hard cutoff one day after launch.

What the extra $20 actually adds

So — worth it?

Buy Ultimate if:

• You're a completionist who'll play the campaign more than once. Two exclusive side missions is genuine content, not a cosmetic bundle, and missable content is the thing completionists resent most.
• You care about exclusive vendors and garages, which affect what you can do in the world rather than just how you look doing it.
• $20 isn't meaningful to you relative to a game you'll likely put 100+ hours into. At 100 hours, the upgrade costs 20 cents an hour.

Buy Standard if:

• You mainly want the story once and don't chase 100%.
• You're waiting to see how good the game actually is. Rockstar has released no hands-on gameplay footage as of August 2026 — two trailers and an "Extended Look" premiering August 27, but nothing playable-adjacent. Buying the deluxe tier of an unreviewed game is a choice.
• You'd rather put the $20 toward a second game.

Our actual take: $20 for two side missions plus vehicles is a fine deal, not a great one — and it's a much easier yes if you're confident you'll love the game. Since nobody has played it yet, the risk-adjusted move for most people is Standard now. Rockstar will very likely sell the Ultimate content separately later if you change your mind. But do not skip pre-ordering entirely, because that's how you lose the Vintage Pack.

The one deadline that actually matters

Whichever edition you choose, the Vintage Vice City Pack expires for digital buyers after November 19, 2026. Buy on November 21 and it's gone.

That's the part of the decision with a clock on it. The Standard-vs-Ultimate question you can sit on for another three months. The pre-order question you can't.
